ANSI/ISEA COMPLIANCE

State of the art specifications have been Adopted by OSHA for high visibility clothing to be worn by workers in vehicle traffic areas. These specifications are known as ANSI/ISEA 107-2004

Three classes of garments were established for level of risk.

The determinants of those classifications are listed below.

Class 1:

Worker can give full and undivided attention to approaching traffic

This is ample separation of the pedestrian worker from conflicting vehicle traffic

There is optimum conspicuity in background that are not complex

Vehicle and moving equipment sppeds do not exceed 25 mph

Class 2:

Medium visibility requirements for workers in speed zones in excess of 25 mph

Generally applies to workers in urban/rural areas including road contruction and maintenance crews, utility and survey crews, school crossing guards, EMS workers, traffice police, railway crews, parking and toll gate personnel, airport baggage handlers/ground crews, and more.

Class 3:

Highest visibility requirements in high-risk situations and who need to be conscpicuous through a full range of body motions from a minimum distance of 1,280 feet, and must be identifiable as a person.

Traffic speeds are significantly higher than Class 2 speeds

For workers on highway/freeway/interstates including road construction and maintenance crews, flagging crews, utility and survey crews, EMS personnel.
